SONIA WILLIAMS-EWING
GENERAL MANAGER, OCEAN CLUB RESORT,
PASSES AWAY UNEXPECTEDLY JULY 7
Longtime team and guest favorite at top Turks & Caicos resort
“Gone too soon” is heard tenderly, repeatedly and with heartfelt sadness throughout both Ocean Club and Ocean Club West resorts, as we say goodbye to Sonia Williams-Ewing, General Manager at the Ocean Club location for the past 12 years. Sonia’s approach in wholeheartedly leading with compassion and understanding will live on at each property.
A graduate of the Business Studies Program at Turks & Caicos Community College, Sonia became one of the very first indigenous women in the Turks & Caicos Islands to achieve the position of General Manager at a major resort. She began her career at Ocean Club Resorts in 1999 as a Front Desk Attendant. Within a year she rose to Front Desk Supervisor which led to her recognition as an outstanding member of the team and subsequent promotion to Front Desk Manager within her first few years at the resort.
Always interested in learning more about all facets of overall resort operations, by 2007, Sonia was named Assistant Operations Manager before taking on the role of General Manager at Ocean Club in 2009.
Sonia effusively shared her love of the hospitality industry and Ocean Club Resorts in particular, with her many friends, extended family, co-workers and returning guests who sought her out for her warm spirit and generosity of insights on “what’s happening in Provo.” Her greatest joy was her family—loving husband Jamal and dearest son Jamon.
Managing Director Wilbert Mason said, “Sonia Williams-Ewing truly embodied the philosophy of live, love, laugh and leave a lasting legacy. Her loss is a shock to us all and she will be greatly missed.”
